| La Confitería Ideal was founded in 1912. Its founder was don Manuel Rosendo Fernández, a spanish inmigrant who was born in Pontevedra. The building was designed by the construction engineer C.F. González. The building has two floors. On the ground floor is the confiteria per se (traditional breakfast, musical tea time and executive lunches) and the first floor functions as the main tango salon with a capacity of 250 people. La Confitería Ideal has been the set for the key scenes of many important movies such as: "Evita"starring Madonna and directed by Alan Parker, "La Historia Oficial" starring Norma Aleandro & Héctor Alterio, "Gatica" directed by Leonardo Favio, "The Tango Lesson", written and directed by Sally Potter and "Tango" directed by Carlos Saura with music by Lalo Schiffrin (the Argentine composer of the world famous Mission Impossible theme tune) amongst others. |
